What we're about

Due to the COVID-19, all CSDC in-person Jams are postponed until easing of social distancing and contact guidelines. Please stay tuned for forthcoming club communications.

Members are encouraged to reach out to each other through our member roster (Members Menu). You can message others through this site by visiting individual profiles and clicking "Send Message."

Virtual Jams and Open Mics: Our bi-weekly Open Mic events are here on bi-weekly Wednesdays and Sundays. and our goal is to make these a recurring event. However, we'd like to offer sessions that allow up to 14 or so folks to log in to a host and present a selection from our songbook(s) or new material they'd like to solo, while the rest of us mute our mics and follow along.

Have you reached a wall in your musical learning or collaboration experiences? Columbia Strums and Drums Collaborative (CSDC) is an altruistic Central Maryland group to join other acoustic or acoustic-electric enthusiasts with outreach also to those learning or playing accompanying instruments. CSDC hopes to fill a 'need space' for contact and collaboration.

· To bring together those with vision, able to devote some time and energy.

- To join together like-minded players who have found themselves with an instrument and some learning, but who seek collaboration, vs. solitude in their musical journey.

· Appreciation of music itself with a modicum of participation. Members are encouraged to participate as frequently as they wish, but at least occasionally, e.g. at least once every six months.

· To be a free-of-charge forum, except for events at musical venues or sharing of donations/fees to outside meetup locations (ie. community/interfaith centers, etc.). We also appreciate voluntary donations to defray event organizers' expenses for any food, beverages, etc.

All ages and skill levels are welcome; for in-person jams, we request those under 18 be accompanied on their first visit by a parent/guardian.

We strongly prefer that whatever your instrument is, you have at least a year of instruction or practical experience, and mastery of its basics (e.g. for guitar, primary major and minor chords, fretboard layout and ability to play). CSDC does not give lessons, but promotes learning from each other. You are encouraged to describe your music experience and preferred genres in your profile.

CSDC is a collaborative meetup and we will look to members for collaboration/assistance and knowledge in such things as hosting gatherings, arranging meeting locations, and group outings. When time is available we encourage members to share insight on a range of topics relevant to music, instruments, related gadgets and equipment. We'll also send out focus material from time to time on musicians and music of interest to its members. Finally, it is hoped that relationships will form within the group that fosters one-to-one collaboration and "noodling," inbetween scheduled events.

CSDC has no other mandate other than for you to grow, glow, appreciate others' dreams, enjoy the company of like-minded explorers and appreciate learning, making and experimenting with music.

In hopes of meeting you soon!

~ Paul Armstrong, Organizer.

CSDC Sunday Series Open Mic Jam - Theme: Open / April

Online event

Please join us for an afternoon of open mic fun, playing and collaboration, sharing your musical inspirations. The event theme is open, but let's try material that relates to the month by word, reference or occasion ... Very loose here; nothing required. For ideas see:

We do ask if possible that you have the means to visually share your selection, with auto-scroll or readable full-screen in the Zoom session so others can follow along. If it is a well-known selection, it's possible that we may have it in our library and can present it for you as a courtesy.

Scheduled for two hours, we won't just end at 4:30; we'll linger to chat about odds n' ends and perhaps some free-form musical experimentation. Fun! Invite others you know who may wish to participate, by joining CSDC here at our meetup.com site. Be sure to please RSVP on the event posting.

Please be present, tuned up and warmed up as best possible at our start time for welcomes, a bit of rapport. We can do sound checks as you enter the room, check 'Original Sound,' on your Zoom client etc. It's always nice to hang out for 15-20 at the end of the session to chat and explore.

The direct Zoom link to this virtual meetup, with embedded meeting ID and password are in the right sidebar of this announcement (visible upon RSVP). We also send the logon instructions to all attendees by email prior to the event, and we'll try to post the information as a comment under this event post for those who RSVP late and didn't get the email.

Please see important info in our Open Mic "Rules of the Road" on our Message board at: https://www.meetup.com/CSDCollaborative/messages/boards/thread/52892734

I look forward to playing with you!
