What we’re about

Sometimes being a geek girl is a lonely experience.

It's hard to connect with other women when they're staring at you strangely because you're trying to explain your theory that the nature of a child's mutation stems partially from genetics (as seen in Polaris and Magneto), but mostly from some sort of trauma before puberty (like how Nightcrawler wanted to disappear because of his demonic appearance). Or maybe you got a little too excited at a dinner party when you started explaining your personal headcanon about why Haldir of Lothlórien's brothers, Rúmil and Orophin, weren't fluent in the Common Tongue. Or maybe you told the other women at work that you're simply the kind of gal who prefers an afternoon at a museum over a night at the club, and now they think there's something wrong with you. You flashed 'em a little bit of your geek, and people just sidle away cautiously.

Not at this meetup. We LOVE your inner geek. We want you to pull it out of its hiding place, doll it up, and make it sing for our amusement. (Naturally, singing is optional. ;)) Introverts, extroverts, and ambiverts are welcomed equally.

This is a place where you can meet girls who share your interests, socialize, have adventures, and not feel ostracized. Our main focus is to provide a safe social setting for geeky gals to interact and hopefully create bonds of friendship that will last a long time. Our secondary focus is to have a blast!

Women-identified geeks of all ages, shapes, ethnicities, and interests are welcome!

Also join us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/groups/geekgirlsofhartford/

Please don't join if you are of the male persuasion – this is not a geek-on-geek dating service.

Note: payments for annual dues ($5) or general donations to help cover our Meetup subscription can be sent via PayPal: https://paypal.me/jashleyodell
