Please note - there have obviously been no cafe meetings since covid, and it won't be safe to resume for some time yet.
Are you an artist free to sketch on a Friday? Like to draw from life but a bit shy about doing it alone? Meet other artists for a casual lunch and sketch (actually, we extend through to teatime cake too :- ) Venue-based for comfort and sociability, but informal and inexpensive. We gather every Friday in various relaxed eateries and coffee shops, from the West End to Richmond, to draw our surroundings and chat through the afternoon. You're welcome to join us - just bring a small sketchbook and some food money.
Note - Most of us get there for lunchtime as it seems only fair we put money across the counter before hogging the tables for the afternoon. This isn't a class and nothing is provided - we're just normal cafe customers, so best to order something before getting materials out, in the same way you would if taking your laptop to a cafe. We must keep things neat on food tables - no tubes spread about to attract hygiene complaints. If you do use a small watercolour set, don't use cafe crockery to wash brushes.
There's no charge from me, but it's nice to leave a tip for staff as we're there for so long, so a contribution of 50p - £1 on the table is always welcome at the more helpful places.
We meet every Friday. We don't post photos of artists, and there's no 'end time'. It's just a social thing so come and go as you wish.
If sharing your cafe drawings on social media, you may want to use our hashtag #cafesketchers, and feel free to add your sketches to the Meetup page.
