Reading Astronomy: The Square Kilometre Array

Details

The Reading Astronomical Society invite Basingstoke Cafe Scientifique members to a talk by Dr Matt Jarvis (Department of Physics, Oxford) on the Square Kilometre Array. The talk will be held at the society's usual venue of St. Peter’s Church Hall, Church Road, Earley, READING RG6 1EY starting at 7.00pm.

With plans for 3,000 dishes, a collecting aperture of one square kilometre and a synthetic aperture of thousands of kilometres this project will give radio astronomers almost visual wavelength resolution. Such extreme sensitivity will provide insight into the most violent and distant events of the universe. In order to do this, computing power will increase by orders of magnitude of current data handling.

Further details of this event can be obtained from: info [at] readingastro [dot] org [dot] uk and at the web address http://www.readingastro.org.uk/main-programme/
