What we're about

This group is for the study of a traditional Japanese martial art, Bujinkan Taijutsu. The purpose of this training is to improve both the mind and the body, as well as the way in which these connect through sensorial awareness. It is especially this cultivation of the sensorial awareness that we aim to cultivate, both through movement and through other exercises. We train by slowing our movement down in order to study proper alignment and good technique (there is no competition or sparring). This meet up is set up as a mechanism for informing new students about our training and for Calgarians to meet like minded people. Please send us a message if you'd like further information or have any questions.

Martial Arts Class (Bujinkan Taijutsu)

Sunalta Community Hall

A beginner friendly martial arts class. Classes include training on how to fall safely (ukemi), proper breathing during movement, and fundamentals of good alignment during movement. These classes are part of a Japanese martial arts tradition, Bujinkan Taijutsu which studies both armed (sword, long, and short stick) and unarmed applications of budo ('the martial way'). Our classes are focused on learning good technique through a slowed down movement and as such are suitable for a range of body types (there is no sparring or competition). New students can try two classes for free (after this drop-in classes are $15). Feel free to wear any general light exercise clothing that allows for a good range of movement.
