Calgary Game Developers is a group for people of all skill levels interested in creating video games. It doesn't matter whether you're a programmer, artist, sound designer, writer, or any other profession, so long as you simply enjoy making games.
We run multiple regular meetups:

• Weekly Work sessions (every Friday named “Indie Friday”)
• YYC Game Critiques
• Game Jams
This meetup is run by the Calgary Game Developers Association, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and growth of the local game development scene here in Calgary.

CGDA Masterclass: Punchy Writing for Indie Games
Platform Calgary, 407 9 Ave SE, Calgary, AB, CAStephen - Founder of Isto Inc., an indie game studio based out of Calgary. Started in 2017, Isto Inc. is the maker of Disjoint, Atrio, and Get To Work.
Nikayla - A high school English teacher and Calgary-based writer. Her credits include writing for the Isto Inc. video game Get To Work, the narrative art show Ghost Stories YYC, and local plays Innocence Astray and Mission Recruitment. Currently, Nikayla is the head writer for The Stargazer Initiative, an upcoming locally produced audio drama that blends sci-fi with atmospheric horror.
About this Masterclass:
This presentation is a focus on genre, gameplay, and subverting expectations. Stephen and Nikayla break down the rules of writing, balancing lore and style with gameplay constrictions, and marrying code to story through the lens of Get To Work by Isto Inc.Get feedback!
We are looking for two game makers to share their games story / narrative writing and how it's integrated into their game. Feedback will be provided. For more details, reach out on our discord, local-events channel and mention the July Masterclass on Game Writing.
