The trailhead is located at Sunshine Village parking lot (We will need to shuttle vehicles to Red Earth Creek parking Lot). From the parking lot we will follow the Healy Creek Trail up to the Meadows. Once here we will be staying to the right of the trail to avoid any avalanche hazards. At Healy Pass there are many great views. From the pass we will descend through the trees down the trail towards Egypt Lake. We will spend a warm night at Egypt Lake. The next day we will descend from Egypt Lake through Pharaoh Creek (this section has some sharp turns) and on to Red Earth Creek. The second day will be long. The intent of this trip is to travel (tour) not backcountry ski.

The hut has wood stove for heat only (i.e., not for cooking) and wooden sleeping platforms (i.e., mattresses recommended for greater comfort). The hut has no lighting and no cooking stoves. There is an accessible outhouse. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/banff/activ/activ33/kk.aspx

We will be leaving Calgary at 6:30 am so please be gassed up, feed and ready to leave.

It is your responsibility to make sure you have acquired all necessary equipment, clothing, and food for this trip. All outdoor activities involve a certain degree of risk, so it is up to you to be prepared, self-reliant, responsible, cautious, and aware of surrounding hazards. As well, mountain weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for unforeseen changes. For safety reasons, if you show up for this event unprepared or with inappropriate clothing and or gear you will not be permitted to continue on the trip.

It is my intent to empower members to take responsibility and gain backcountry experience and knowledge. This event should be viewed as a learning experience as well as a fun filled trip.

We will be sharing bunks in the hut between 2 people. Trip members will be responsible for setting up their own car-pooling prior to the trip start date. For those people interested, we will be going to Banff after the trip to the hot springs and lunch. If not interested, please make sure you have a way of getting home. Please make sure you bring bathing suit. This will likely be time dependent.
