All three mountains are in Kananaskis Country and are accessible from Evan-Thomas parking lot. They are on the East side of Highway 40 and are visible from the highway if you know where to look. We will park at Evan-Thomas parking lot and walk on Evan-Thomas and then on Baldy Trail for a bit. From there, ( at the right moment hopefully) we'll bushwhack our way up to attain the Volcano Peak's ridge. Once on the ridge the route is pretty straightforward. All of our objectives are sitting on the ridge and all we need to do to bag them is simply to go forward. The description of the ascent can be found in Andrew Nugara's book p.197. The ridge walk would be about 4-5 k one way, it is exposed at times and there's some difficult scrambling. Whether we can make it to all summits will depend on the weather and overall conditions on the ridge. There's a lot of distance to cover, so we will travel fast and the participants have to be competent scramblers, capable of handling long lasting exposure and fit enough to maintain the quick pace. We will return by descending the western slopes of Mt.McDougall to McDougall Creek and then back to Old Baldy Trail and Evan Thomas parking lot. Of course should we run into any problems we may have to return the same way we came.
Because of the nature of the trip the group size will be limited to 5 or 6 people utmost. Those willing to participate, please put yourselves on the waiting list and I will add you manually based on your experience and your RSVP history.
