Easy Scramble / Gusty Peak.

***When you arrive to the meet up location. Look for a truck with a red flashing LED on top of it. This is to help people find me in the morning.

Please carefully read the gear requirements and trip difficulty ratings. It is the responsibility of the participant to check for any updates, changes or cancellations before the trip. Gear checks will be conducted at the meet up location. Failure to have the required gear will result in the participant not attending the trip. Participants will also need to answer all the questions regarding this trip before I decide who attends.

An automatic waiting list has been created for this trip. Participants will be selected based on experience scrambling moderate to difficult scrambles. Participants must be punctual and have a good RSVP history. Which means they do not constantly change their RSVP statuses, are not regularly late and do not back out last minute. To put it simply, I decide who goes on this trip regardless of who signs up first.

Make sure that you have paid for a 2013 membership with the CSMC. Payment can be made online or at the meeting location. Waivers are mandatory for every trip and can be printed online or filled out at the meeting location. Cost for membership with the CSMC is $20 for 2013. Be sure to also bring extra money for car pooling costs.

Gusty peak is located north of Fortress Mountain and east of Chester Lake which is a popular area during the larch season. The weather is calling for a 'gusty' day, so dress appropriately. This peak also has a reputation for being a scree slog, so be prepared for a bit of suffering... Normal for my trips. LOL

Group size: 8

Route: Alan Kane's scramble route up the SW slope.

Difficulty: Easy in dry conditions. Snow, ice, wind, etc, will greatly increase the difficulty of the trip. (Easy scrambling involves short sections of hands on scrambling with little or no exposure. Most travel will be on scree slopes, slab and trails.)

Altitude: 3000 Meters

Elevation gain: 1100 Meters

Km’s: 18

Estimated trip time (Car to car): 8-10 hours.

(Please note that times listed above are only estimations. Trip could be longer or shorter depending on conditions of terrain, weather and group.)

Mandatory gear:

Mountaineering axe and knowledge of its use, hiking boots (Not shoes), helmet, micro spikes, warm clothes and gloves, shell jacket, pants and gloves, balaclava, personal first aid kid and emergency blanket or bivy bag, food and water, headlamp, bear spray, NO COTTON CLOTHES OR GEAR.

Gear recommended:

Camera, hiking poles.

Possible Hazards:

Rock fall, exposure (Not the naked kind), yogi bear, snow or ice, my sense of humor, high winds.

Expect this trip to be a moderate pace. Should there be good weather, expect quick stops for pictures and an extended break on the summit.
