Hike! Prairie Mountain

Join me in starting 2013 off right by hiking Prairie Mountain (weather permitting).

Distance: Approximately 7 km return

Elevation Gain: 686 M

Estimated trip time: 3.5 - 4 hours plus driving time

Trailhead: The trailhead is located on Highway 66, just south of the Elbow Falls winter gates and on the east (northeast) side of Prairie Creek.

I will be taking off from the Sirocco Park and Ride (17th ave SW just past Sarcee going west, left on Sirocco, first left at lights) around 9:15 am.

This is a moderately strenuous hike due to the elevation gain in such a short distance...a definite leg burner. Proper, sturdy hiking boots and icers/microspikes are a must for the trail as it is steep and will likely be hardpacked and slick in spots. Hiking poles and gaiters are also recommended. Dress appropriately for the weather with warm layered clothing, toque, mitts, etc. Also, please bring any snacks/food you desire (perhaps a thermos of something) and at least one litre of water. Please bring money to split the cost of fuel for the car pool.

Perhaps we will stop in Bragg Creek for a drink or something after.
