*Location- Community Room @ Bay Street Emeryville mall. Located near the Mall’s Management Office. **Refreshments served. **Assemblyman Grayson will arrive at 12:30pm. CA Sibs is pleased to present the opportunity for Sibs in NorCal to meet with Assemblyman Grayson- District 14,( who has something in common with us, he is a Sib. At this meetup we will have the opportunity to hear about the Assemblyman’s upbringing and campaign, share our Sib background and discuss what the future looks like not only for our siblings, but also for us Sibs! For background, on March 14, 2018 he passed a proclamation for Down Syndrome Awareness Week: “Today, I am very proud to introduce my sister Shari and share her story with my Assembly colleagues,” said Assemblymember Grayson. “She is a remarkable human being who doesn’t let this condition define her or limit her dreams and ambitions. Like most individuals with Down syndrome, she attends school, works, and contributes to society in many wonderful ways.” Assemblymember Grayson’s resolution, known as ACR 165, proclaims March 18 to March 24, 2018, as “California Down Syndrome Awareness Week,” and March 21, 2018, as “California Down Syndrome Day.”

    What we're about

CaliforniaSibs is the official California state Chapter of the nationwide Sibling Leadership Network (SLN). Our Mission is to partner with Sibs (sisters and brothers of those with special needs) here in California in finding and creating information, and to provide community support and advocacy tools to advance issues important to them and their entire families.

The Northern California branch hosts informational and supportive MeetUps bi-monthly, typically in Oakland, over Sunday brunch with a special guest speaker. In the past, we have welcomed licensed psychologist Dr. Virginia Bassi and Sheraden Nicolau, Bay Area General Manager with the State Council on Development Disabilities (SCDD).

The Southern California branch is centrally located out of Los Angeles, with bi-monthly brunch MeetUps hosted in local restaurants around Downtown Los Angeles, the Westside LA, the San Fernando Valley, and Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley. A little bit more casual, these brunches act as a fun place for people to connect, laugh, support, and bond over what makes us unique.
