The Calumet Astronomical Society has been serving as the Region's organization for astronomical study, education, recreation, and outreach for over 35 years. Visitors are welcome to all of our events and there are many benefits of membership in the Society.
Founded in 1975, and incorporated as an Indiana non-profit corporation in 2000, the Calumet Astronomical Society, Inc. (CAS) is a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit organization created for the purpose of pursuing the study of astronomy and promoting the education of of astronomy and space science. The CAS membership consists mainly of enthusiasts from the Northwest Indiana and Chicago metropolitan areas, but is open to anyone. For membership information, please click here. Our monthly open house is at the Conway Observatory at Buckley Homestead County Park. This month, we will be observing a thin crescent moon. The telescopes will be available for observing the skies, weather permitting.
Bring a blanket and join us on the main beach near the pavilion for an annual event with local astronomers from the Calumet Astronomical Society! Special telescopes will be set up as well as periodic constellation talks. This a free event after paying the State Park gate fee of $7 in-state/ $12 out-of state vehicles.
In case of very cloudy or inclement weather this event will be cancelled. Call the Nature Center[masked] for additional questions.
