Hello fellow lovers of Democracy!
Got the democracy blues? We know that it's easy to despair over some of the critical yet commonplace issues in our society- climate change, racial inequality, a staggering income gap, Washington infighting. We chose, instead, to take action to address the root of these issues- Democracy! We at Small Planet Institute are focused on what we call "living democracy," which is both a daily personal practice and a requirement of a government that answers to its people. To attain the kind of democracy we want to see, we're tackling, with a strong network of others, the all-powerful hand of big money in politics.
In this light, we're happy to announce our Democracy Den community gatherings, held in our Harvard Square office. We're thinking movie screenings, book discussions, trainings, social gatherings. We're creating a "there" for community to come together in the most fundamental practice of democracy. Let's ACT! If we can bridge cultural gaps, learn and share, and be inspired by stories of success or struggle, we are practicing the "living democracy" that we need to see on our municipal, state and federal levels, too.
We're currently working on a money-out-of politics field guide, researching and writing a book, hosting events, and organizing for this April's mass action, Democracy Spring. Come to our meetups if you're ready to act.
