Details

This is a group for people struggling with social anxiety and related issues. It is not run by professionals in the field but by people who also have or had suffered with the condition, and our aim is to provide an opportunity for those with anxiety to meet and discuss their experiences with others. It is a condition that encourages solitude but it is our premise that it is most helpful in making sense of anxiety, of dealing with it and/or overcoming it, through meeting and talking with other people who, best understand what it means and how it works. We encourage all our members to attend and look forward greatly to seeing new faces each week. There is no set plan for the group, but we will have some optional activities each week such as explaining challenges and positives from our week, talking to the whole group or one to one conversations. topics to talk about in pairs or small groups, or reading a passage from a book to the group. All of these are optional and there will be no pressure to do them. There will probably only be one or two activities each week. The group is always supportive and everyone understands how each other feels, so if you want to sit and listen at any time or need to have a break then please do so.

There is a small charge of £5 to cover the room rental/ membership fees.
N.B. We should add that although the meeting starts at 7.15, for anyone who is coming for the first time, either me or John will be at the entrance from 7.00 p.m. just so we can introduce ourselves and explain a little about the group before the session. It occurs to us that sometimes people may feel more comfortable if they can meet someone beforehand.

COVID-19 safety measures

Although Covid restrictions have ended, we want to ensure we are making people feel safe when they come to the group. So we advise that everyone sanitises their hands on/before arrival (sanitiser is provided by the library). That if you feel unwell or have Covid-19 symptoms/a family member does then to stay home. Windows can be open for ventilation and feel free to wear a mask if you feel more comfortable.
The event host is instituting the above safety measures for this event. Meetup is not responsible for ensuring, and will not independently verify, that these precautions are followed.
