We are travelling to Cardiff (just 2 hours from Paddington ) for a walking & cycling weekend break in the capital city of Wales. We will be staying 2 nights at the ideally situated hostel on the River Taff facing the Millennium Stadium. Cardiff was established by the Romans 200 years ago & has now undergone a transformation with the redevelopment of Cardiff bay. Cardiff Bay. The Bay is a beautiful tourist area transformed through one of the world's largest regeneration projects, built around a 200 hectare freshwater lake which is the largest waterfront development in Europe. The lake has been created through the Cardiff Bay Barrage which has a cycle trail allowing a complete circuit on the Bay starting & finishing in the City centre.
On Saturday we plan to hire cycles at the hostel to do a cycle tour of the city, the Bay & will detour to Penarth after visiting the Doctor Who exhibition. Penarth is an elegant seaside resort accessible by bike. It has great views across the Bristol Channel, an art deco pier, coastal cycle trail & beautiful parks, Walk option as well on same route.
Options for Sunday are to take the water bus along the river Taff & around the Bay; the majestic castle of Caerphilly is just 15 minutes by rail from Cardiff. The Norman fortress is the largest castle in Wales. Option to also visit the National Museum Cardiff which is the home to one of the finest impressionist galleries outside Paris, and features works by Monet, Picasso and Rodin. Price of event is £59
Price includes 2 nights in dorm rooms: breakfast on both days, plus guided cycle tour of the Bay & Penarth. Includes full group membership for full insurance cover. Reduced price if already a full member member.

Bikes, irons and hairdryers available for hire. Linen, duvets and breakfast are included in the price and the beds are made up for you. .

Car share with others from main hawog group already going. Rail services. Currently super off peak return tickets are £75 to Cardiff, based on travelling at or after 19.15 on the Friday. Cheaper fares may be released by GWR around 12 weeks before the event but may not be available on all services. National Express coach services are also available to Cardiff. We aim to catch late afternoon train back, arriving London Sunday evening.
