Talks will be given by Alex Mason and David Peterson, with a section for lightning talks at the end.

David: A Gentle Introduction to Functional Programming in Haskell. In this talk, we take a look at the history and motivations for functional programming, consider why functional programming makes more sense now than ever before, and provide a highly accessible overview to Haskell, a pure functional language. This is a beginner-level talk and no prior familiarity with Haskell is assumed.

Alex: Picking trees up by the ears - Finger trees and Data.Seq - An introduction to one of the more interesting functional data structures with good asymptotics (O(1) amortised cons and snoc, O(log(min(m,n)) append)

If you've got something you'd like to talk about, please let us know via the mailing list or on the night and we'll add you to the list. Talks lengths between 5 and 10 minutes (surprisingly short!).

If you want to give a longer talk, also let us know and we'll add you to either this month's meeting or a coming month. Remember, groups like this can only be a success if people stick their hand up to help. There will be a page soon with interesting papers, blog posts and videos which you might want to use as as inspiration for a talk.

Everyone is welcome, invite your friends! Free pizza and refreshments will be proudly provided by NICTA.

See you there!
