Details

In late 2017, as part of efforts by Geoscience Australia's Cultural Reference Group chaired by the CEO, Cognitive Edge's sensemaker software was deployed to explore the cultural landscape of the organisation. The survey was extraordinarily easy to get up and running and resulted in the anonymous collection of some 200 stories about "what it's like to work here" within a two month period. This talk introduces the methods we used in the survey, the results and actions that immediately followed it, as well as the base it has become to further map and improve our organisational culture.

Bio - Shane has worked in the Australian Public Service for 10 years; in roles ranging from Critical Infrastructure Analysis to Natural Hazard simulation and impact modelling. For the last 5 years he has been involved in spreading lean-agile ideas throughout Geoscience Australia and more recently in the ACT government. He has taken leadership roles in teams that have transformed the way software development integrates with the needs of scientists and been responsible for running large scale planning cadences across multiple teams and dozens of developers.
His passion lies in using the Cynefin framework as a guide to these activities, ensuring that they are as adaptable or flexible as required. He has also used the framework to investigate the culture of an organisation through micro-narrative collection and exposure.
