What we're about

Looking for new dog friendly walks around Canberra but don't know where to start? Canberra Dog Walks (https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/) offers guided walks for dogs and their owners showcasing the best of Canberra. We aim to provide an enjoyable experience for both people and dogs. Generally our walks:

- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historical buildings.

All walkers welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment.

Membership of this group is free but to help cover our Meetup subscription, website hosting, internet and other costs we ask $5 from each adult participating in a walk. A more detailed explanation of our costs is posted on the group message board (http://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/messages/boards/thread/50189131) and group members can see all income and expenses itemised on the Money page (http://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/money/).

Any other questions about our group walks? Check our FAQ page (https://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/pages/22535123/Frequently_asked_questions/) or message the organiser directly.

Find out more about Canberra Dog Walks at our website (https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/) or our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/canberradogwalks?ref=settings). All information about dog friendly Canberra is provided free, inspired by a love of Canberra, walking and dogs.

Note that all walkers participate entirely at their own risk.

Saturday Griffith walk - off leash parks and tree-lined streets

McDonald's, Manuka

A$5.00

This is one of my favourite local walks - long off leash stretches through well watered parks in Griffith, a satisfying sticky beak into the backyards of Mugga Way residences, then a downhill wander through more tree-lined, exclusive Forrest streets. The route follows part of our Manuka-Griffith walk (https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/manuka-griffith-walk/) but heads off towards the base of Red Hill to create an approximately 5 km walk. There is easy parking in Manuka (pay parking in two multi-storey carparks as well as on street, plus some free parking on streets within 3 minutes walk of Manuka centre). Manuka also has plenty of outdoor dog friendly cafes/bars if you'd like a pre or post-walk coffee or drink, e.g. the PUBlic and Urban Pantry. Please be aware that all off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please understand their decision, as they are trying to please a large group and to keep everyone - dog and human - safe. To help cover our meetup subscription, website hosting, internet and other costs, we ask $5 from each adult participating in the walk. Payment should be provided to the guide at the beginning of the walk. The guide will refund your payment at the end of the walk if you are not satisfied for any reason.

Saturday Kingston walk - a contrast of old and new

Meet @ Green Square

A$5.00

Explore Kingston with your furry best friends on this urban walk through the oldest and newest parts of this trendy suburb. We will: • start and end at the Kingston shops (some of the earliest in Canberra); • cut through the new apartment and restaurant precinct on the eastern shore of Lake Burley Griffin; • loop back through pretty tree-lined parks and streets of old Kingston featuring heritage listed cottages • finish up with an optional coffee/late breakfast at one of the great cafes in Green Square This is a mainly on leash walk, but our dogs will have one off leash opportunity at the Kingston oval, and they'll get plenty of stimulation walking on-leash through the busy Foreshore precinct, along boardwalks and over pedestrian bridges. The walk follows a circular, flat and mainly paved route of between 4-5 km which may take up to 2 hours to complete with a group. There is ample free parking on nearby streets, but it may be difficult to get a spot close to our meeting point as the car park in Eyre Street is now a building site. To help cover our meetup subscription, website hosting and other costs, we ask $5 from each adult participating in the walk. Payment should be provided to the guide at the beginning of the walk. The guide will refund your payment at the end of the walk if you are not satisfied for any reason. Please understand that all off leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If the guide feels your dog needs to stay on leash, please respect their decision as they are trying to please a large group and keep everyone happy and safe.
