What we're about

Looking for new dog friendly walks around Canberra but don't know where to start? Canberra Dog Walks (https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/) offers guided walks for dogs and their humans showcasing the best of Canberra. Generally our walks:

- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historic buildings.

All walkers welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment.

Please go to our FAQ page (https://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/pages/22535123/Frequently_asked_questions/) for more detailed information on our walks or message the organiser directly. Please go to our COVID-19 policy page (https://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/pages/30257609/COVID-19_-_protocols_and_risks/) for more information on our coronavirus protocols.

Membership of this group is free but to help cover our Meetup subscription, insurance, travel, IT and other costs we ask $5.20 from each adult participating in a walk, to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk. A more detailed explanation of our costs is posted on the group message board (https://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/messages/boards/thread/50189131) and group members can see all income and expenses itemised on the Money page (https://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/money/).

Find out more about Canberra Dog Walks and dog-friendly Canberra on our website (https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/canberradogwalks). All information about dog friendly Canberra is provided free, inspired by a love of Canberra, walking and dogs.

Important

1. All walkers participate entirely at their own risk and are wholly responsible for their own and their dog's behaviour.

1. We ask that all participants follow the walk guide's directions, including in relation to their dogs. For example, individual participants may be asked to walk their dog/s on-leash for part or all of the walk if, in the guide's judgement, it is necessary for the safety and/or consideration of others in the group, or other members of the public. The guide is using their best judgement, after leading hundreds of walks with many different dogs, to ensure as far as possible that everyone - both humans and dogs - has a pleasant experience.

Sunday Curtin walk - post-lockdown version of our fave off leash walk

Join us for some great off-leash walking in Curtin featuring pretty spring colour. This is a variation of one of our favourite walks for providing our dogs with extensive - and safe - off-leash opportunities.

Instead of walking around the high side of Curtin, we'll venture to the low side ... We'll follow a circular route of around 5 km through a series of interconnected parks and playing fields.

While not providing the views of our Curtin ridge walk, it's still a very pleasant stroll and lots of fun for our dogs. There will even be some paddling opportunities in Yarralumla Creek.

The walk is likely to take around 90 minutes at a relaxed pace, including a few stops along the way to offer our dogs water, let them have a play on the ovals, and to let me take some group photos!

This is an easy walk, with only one, not very long, uphill section. We'll be walking on paved footpaths, dirt tracks and across irrigated ovals.

There's plenty of free parking at the Curtin shops, a great dog friendly café, and a good Coles if you want to catch up on your grocery shopping while you're there.

Important info:
- In accordance with our COVID-19 protocols, we only accept card payments and ask that you maintain physical distancing while with the group.
- You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour.
- All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience.
- We ask $5.20 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, travel, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason.
