What we're about

Looking for new dog friendly walks around Canberra but don't know where to start? Canberra Dog Walks offers guided walks for dogs and their humans showcasing the best of Canberra. Generally our walks:

- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historic buildings.

All walkers welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment.

Please go to our FAQ page for more detailed information on our walks or message the organiser directly. Our COVID-19 safety protocols are also available on the FAQ page.

Membership of this group is free but to help cover our Meetup subscription, insurance, travel, IT and other costs we ask $6.20 from each adult participating in a walk, to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk. Group members can see all income and expenses itemised on the Money page.

Find out more about Canberra Dog Walks and dog-friendly Canberra on our website or Facebook page. All information about dog friendly Canberra is provided free, inspired by a love of Canberra, walking and dogs.

Important

  1. All walkers participate entirely at their own risk and are wholly responsible for their own and their dog's behaviour.
  2. We ask that all participants follow the walk guide's directions, including in relation to their dogs. For example, individual participants may be asked to walk their dog/s on-leash for part or all of the walk if, in the guide's judgement, it is necessary for the consideration of others in the group, or other members of the public. The guide is using their best judgement, after leading hundreds of walks with many different dogs, to ensure as far as possible that everyone - both humans and dogs - has a pleasant experience.

Wednesday Narrabundah walk - off leash frolics and leafy paths

Needs a location

A$6.20

This is a lovely, easy walk exploring an inner Canberra suburb featuring old Canberra cottages, lots of off leash opportunities, and beautiful, shady paths.

We'll follow a circular, flat route of about 4.5 km taking in 'working class' Narrabundah streets, two large off leash sports fields, and an extended off leash stretch following the course of Mill and Jerrabomberra creeks.

We'll be walking on paved footpaths, dirt tracks and across irrigated ovals. Note this walk is timed to precede the grass-seed season!

There's free parking at and around the Narrabundah shops, where we'll start and end the walk.

Important info:

  • You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour.
  • All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience.
  • We ask $6.20 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, petrol, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason.

Wednesday Ngunnawal walk - off leash frolics and panoramic views

Needs a location

A$6.20

Join Jenny on this lovely, popular and pram friendly wander through a series of interconnected parks in Ngunnawal, starting and ending at the tiny Ngunnawal shopping centre in Riley Close. (Note - this is NOT the main Ngunnawal shopping centre off Jabanungga Ave.)

The walk has several off leash sections, features outstanding panoramic views, and totals approximately 4 km. There is a hill climb on this walk - to reach that amazing view - but it is such a gentle, gradual climb that you will probably be surprised when you reach the pinnacle.

We'll walk on paved paths and some dirt tracks (but there are parallel paved alternative paths). There is free parking in a small carpark opposite the IGA and in quiet, nearby streets. And there is now a little cafe at the shops for those needing their after-walk coffee fix.

To see more detail about the walk and a google map of the route, see our website here.
