What we're about

Looking for new dog friendly walks around Canberra but don't know where to start? Canberra Dog Walks (https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/) offers guided walks for dogs and their humans showcasing the best of Canberra. Generally our walks:

- last between 1 and 2 hours (3-6 km)
- provide one or more optional off leash opportunities
- start and end at a dog friendly café
- follow a loop with minimal retracing of steps
- feature interesting stuff for humans too, such as beautiful views, quirky sculptures or historic buildings.

All walkers welcome, with or without dogs. We walk at a relaxed pace for maximum enjoyment.

Please go to our FAQ page (https://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/pages/22535123/Frequently_asked_questions/) for more detailed information on our walks or message the organiser directly. Please go to our COVID-19 policy page (https://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/pages/30257609/COVID-19_-_protocols_and_risks/) for more information on our coronavirus protocols.

Membership of this group is free but to help cover our Meetup subscription, insurance, travel, IT and other costs we ask $5.20 from each adult participating in a walk, to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk. A more detailed explanation of our costs is posted on the group message board (http://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/messages/boards/thread/50189131) and group members can see all income and expenses itemised on the Money page (http://www.meetup.com/Canberra-Dog-Walks-Meetup/money/).

Find out more about Canberra Dog Walks and dog-friendly Canberra on our website (https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/canberradogwalks). All information about dog friendly Canberra is provided free, inspired by a love of Canberra, walking and dogs.

Important

1. All walkers participate entirely at their own risk and are wholly responsible for their own and their dog's behaviour.

1. We ask that all participants follow the walk guide's directions, including in relation to their dogs. For example, individual participants may be asked to walk their dog/s on-leash for part or all of the walk if, in the guide's judgement, it is necessary for the safety and/or consideration of others in the group, or other members of the public. The guide is using their best judgement, after leading hundreds of walks with many different dogs, to ensure as far as possible that everyone - both humans and dogs - has a pleasant experience.

Wednesday Ngunnawal walk - off leash frolics and panoramic views

IGA Ngunnawal

A$5.20

Jenny will lead this lovely and popular wander through a series of interconnected parks in Ngunnawal, which starts and ends at the tiny Ngunnawal shopping centre in Riley Close. The walk has several off leash sections, features outstanding panoramic views, and totals approximately 4 km. There is a hill climb on this walk - to reach that amazing view - but it is such a gentle, gradual climb that you will probably be surprised when you reach the pinnacle. We'll walk on paved paths and some dirt tracks. There is free parking in a small carpark opposite the IGA and in quiet, nearby streets. To see more detail about the walk and a google map of the route, see: https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/pram-friendly-walk-ngunnawal/ Important info: - In accordance with our COVID-19 protocols, we only accept card payments and ask that you maintain physical distancing while with the group. - You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour. - All off-leash activities are at the discretion of the walk guide. If for any reason they feel any dog should be back on lead, please respect their decision, as they are trying to ensure everyone has a pleasant experience. - We ask $5.20 per adult to be paid by card to the guide at the beginning of the walk - children (under 18) walk free of charge. The charge helps cover our meetup subscription, insurance, internet, travel, and other costs. We will gladly refund this if you are not happy for any reason.

Saturday Kaleen-Giralang walk - dogs' off-leash heaven/humans' uphill ordeal

This super dog friendly walk includes oodles of extended and safe off leash opportunities. The route is only about 5km, but the first hill is a beauty! Once we cross the road at the shops, this walk is almost entirely off-leash for our friends. We'll take the hill towards the Barton Hwy slowly so we don't lose anyone and there is a road to cross half way up, as a good place to pause for any puffers. We then walk parallel to (but away from) the Barton Highway through a wide park, which includes a small incline again, with a good sized mud puddle for those dogs that love the stuff. Then it's a short section through Giralang neighbourhoods, with the humans back on leash please, before we meander across the off leash Giralang playing fields and back to Kaleen Plaza via the path or large storm drains. This walk is mostly on dirt tracks, with some paved paths and walking over grass. You can find out more and see a google map of the route on our website here: https://www.canberradogwalks.com.au/kaleen-giralang-walk/ Afterwards there's the option of coffee/brunch at Eat Me Drink Me café which is very dog friendly. There is plenty of parking off Georgina Crescent at both ends of the Kaleen Plaza, and public toilets just inside the Plaza entrance next to Eat Me Drink Me cafe. Important info: - In accordance with our COVID-19 protocols, only card payments will be accepted. - Human participants should maintain physical distancing. - You walk entirely at your own risk and you are wholly responsible for your own, and your dog's, behaviour. - We ask $5.20 from each adult participating in the walk to help cover our meetup subscription, insurance, travel and other costs. Payment should be provided to the guide at the beginning of the walk. The guide will happily refund your payment if you are not satisfied for any reason.
