Infrastructure as Code: Hands-On Deployment Workshop
AWS Skill center, 57 Heerengracht Street, Cape Town, ZA🚨🚨🚨 IMPORTANT: Tickets available on Quicket 🚨🚨🚨
In this hands-on workshop, we’re getting straight into Infrastructure as Code — no fluff, no theory overload.
You’ll learn the fundamentals quickly, then we jump into actually deploying real infrastructure across the major cloud providers.
We’re talking real environments, real workflows, and the kind of setups you’d actually use outside of a demo. You’ll see how to:
- Turn messy manual setups into clean, reusable code
- Spin up infrastructure in minutes instead of hours
- Build something that can actually scale (and not fall over on day two)
This is very much a learn by doing session. Expect to be typing, deploying, breaking things, fixing them, and learning fast.
We’ll keep the energy up with snacks, drinks, and a few prizes along the way — because what’s a proper build session without a bit of fun (and competition).Whether you're just getting started or already deep in the game, you’ll walk away with something practical you can actually use.
Bring your laptop. We’re building.Requirements:
- Need a laptop for the workshop

👤 Speaker 👤: Alan-Knot-Craig | Founder | fibertime
What does it really take to build something that scales from millions of chat users to real-world infrastructure connecting homes and businesses?
In this session, Alan Knott-Craig shares the journey from building MXit — one of Africa’s biggest social platforms — to launching Fibertime, bringing affordable fibre internet to communities.
This is not a textbook talk. It’s about the messy, real side of engineering and building products at scale — the decisions that didn’t make sense at the time, the failures that taught the most, and the lessons you only learn by doing.
If you're a developer, engineer, founder, or just curious about what it takes to build and scale in the real world, this session will give you a perspective you won’t get in any lecture hall.We look forward to seeing you at the meetup!
Please keep your RSVP updated if your plans change. This will help us make sure we have the right amount of space and refreshments. We appreciate your help in ensuring a great event for everyone!
