This meetup group no longer exists, but enyca.org still has a listing for the ADIRONDACK CHESS CLUB:

We meet every Wednesday and Saturday from noon until 3PM at the Crandall Public Library. Please contact Matt Collins at 518-798-8109 for more information.

There are a lot of local clubs and unofficial places where people gather. There's a good list at http://www.enyca.org/home/clubs/
The first two are good for kids and casual players.
