In celebration of the release of Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle In Time and International Women's Month Caramel Film Club will be hosting a screening plus a panel discussion with warrior women that work to facilitate diversity in the film and media industries.
Paula Akpan is the co-founder of the 'I'm Tired' Project, an award-winning photography campaign and international workshop programme, and social media coordinator for gal-dem, an online and print magazine comprised entirely of women of colour. She's also the co-founder of Black Girl Festival, the UK's first arts and cultural festival celebrating black women and girls.
Corrina Antrobus is the founder of Bechdel Test Fest – London’s ongoing feminist film festival. She is a film broadcaster for tv, radio, podcasts and online as well as working in film marketing and distribution. Corrina was awarded a Women In Hollywood Trailblazer Award in 2017 and appears on 2018's list of 200 Women Redefining The Creative Industry on The Dots.com. ‘The Bechdel Test’ was inspired by cartoonist Alison Bechdel‘s 1985 tongue-in-cheek comic strip ‘The Rule’ which became a basic measure to see if women are fairly represented in a film. The Bechdel Test Fest started as a year-long project to mark the Bechdel Test’s 30th anniversary in 2015 is now an ongoing celebration of films that succeed in representing women in a positive and progressive light.
Jennifer G. Robinson's career straddles the journalism, education, film and media disciplines. Jennifer taught Film and Media for over 15 years from GCSE through to undergraduate level. She then progressed to Education Management and Curriculum Design. Currently, alongside her own PR Consultancy, Eshé Media, Jennifer is the founder and Director of a new festival platform called 'Women Of The Lens' Film Digital Broadcast to represent women of colour in front of and behind the camera. The Festival had a successful debut November 2017, with plans afoot for event throughout 2018 and beyond.
