> Our Speakers
Lars Brünjes, PhD, Director of Education IOHK
Lars Brünjes holds a PhD in pure mathematics from the University of Regensburg in Germany.
After a postdoctoral year at the University of Cambridge in the UK and several years of research and teaching at Regensburg, he spent a decade working as a lead software architect on mathematical optimization software and web applications for an international IT company.
Lars lives in Regensburg and spent many months in India working with development teams. He is passionate about functional programming in general and Haskell in particular.
Duncan Coutts - Director of Engineering IOHK
Duncan has more than 15 years’ programming experience with Haskell and is a well-known member of the Haskell community. He helps maintain several popular libraries and tools including Cabal and ByteString. He has several years’ experience in packaging the Haskell toolchain and took a leading role in establishing the Haskell Platform.
He holds a first-class degree in Computation and a D.Phil in Computer Science, both from Oxford University. He has published papers at international conferences, including ICFP. His research focus is on generating high-performance code from idiomatic high-level Haskell code. This included co-authoring the ByteString and Binary libraries and work on stream fusion for lists. He has five years’ experience teaching computer science, including four years spent teaching Haskell to mature students at graduate level.
Joining the panel will be Neil Davies, PhD, C.Eng, CITP.
Neil Davies is an expert in resolving the practical and theoretical challenges of large-scale distributed and high-performance computing, particularly scalability effects in such systems, their operational quality, and how to manage their degradation gracefully under saturation and adverse operational conditions. He is a computer scientist, mathematician and hands-on software developer who builds rigorously engineered working systems and scalable demonstrators of new computing and networking concepts.
Throughout his 20-year career at the University of Bristol he was involved with early developments in networking, its protocols and their implementations, and collaborated with organisations such as Nats, Nuclear Electric, HSE, ST Microelectronics and Cern.
Neil has been a life-long member of the British Computer Society, and is a chartered engineer and a chartered IT professional.

We will be taking some photographs to share online as well as filming the presentation. If you do not want to appear in photos or on video, please let us know.
Finally, please make sure you keep your RSVP status updated, if you can no longer make it, even if it is on the event day please let us know. We always have a limited capacity and very often a waiting list so by updating your RSVP you will let someone else take your spot.
We look forward to welcoming you!
