A special evening with Charles Hoskinson: Cardano, proof of stake and Ouroboros

Our special guest for the first meetup is IOHK, the company developing Cardano. Charles Hoskinson, Founder and CEO of IOHK will speak, along with Professor Aggelos Kiayias and members of the IOHK research team.

Charles Hoskinson is a Colorado-based technology entrepreneur and mathematician. He attended Metropolitan State University of Denver and University of Colorado at Boulder to study Analytic Number Theory before moving into cryptography through industry exposure.

His professional experience includes founding three cryptocurrency related start-ups – Invictus Innovations, Ethereum and IOHK – and he has held a variety of colorful positions in the public and private sector. He was the founding chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation’s education committee and established the Cryptocurrency Research Group in September of 2013.

Charles's current projects focus on education of cryptocurrency, evangelism of decentralization and making cryptographic tools easier to use for the mainstream. This includes leading the research, design and development of Cardano, a third-generation cryptocurrency that launched in September 2017.

Professor Aggelos Kiayias is the Chair in Cyber Security and Privacy at the University of Edinburgh and is Chief Scientist at IOHK. He is based at Edinburgh University where he does research and teaches courses in cyber security and cryptography.

His research interests are in computer security, information security, applied cryptography and foundations of cryptography with a particular emphasis in blockchain technologies and distributed systems, e-voting and secure multiparty protocols as well as privacy and identity management.

Prof Kiayias is also Professor in Residence (gratis) at the University of Connecticut, USA, and Associate Professor of Cryptography and Security (on leave) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.

He will speak about provable security and the Ouroboros design philosophy. Other IOHK members including researchers from the Ouroboros team will be present, so it's an incredible line up!
