June Cardano London Meetup: Ouroboros

> ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Our speaker is Prof Aggelos Kiayias from IOHK who is the Chief Scientist at IOHK.

Prof. Aggelos Kiayias is the Chair in Cyber Security and Privacy at the University of Edinburgh. He has published extensively in the area of blockchains and distributed ledgers; his work has laid the foundations for analysing blockchain protocols including the bitcoin blockchain. Prof. Kiayias architected the Ouroboros Proof of Stake blockchain protocol that serves as the settlement layer of Cardano.

His general research interests are in computer security, information security, applied cryptography and foundations of cryptography with a particular emphasis on blockchain technologies and distributed systems, e-voting and secure multiparty protocols as well as privacy and identity management. Prof Kiayias is also Professor in Residence (gratis) at the University of Connecticut, USA, and Associate Professor of Cryptography and Security (on leave) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.

> IMPORTANT TO KNOW

This meetup and Prof Aggelos’s content will aim to explain the first principles behind proof of stake protocols focusing on the Ouroboros blockchain. Aggelos will also provide an overview of several different ongoing research efforts under his supervision within IOHK that relate to Cardano, including incentives for stake pools, delegation mechanisms, sidechains, blockchain software updates, treasury systems and others. Some parts of the talk will be mathematical in nature but in general the talk is aimed at a general audience.
