What we're about

Welcome to the Cardiff Film Group, a social group for anyone passionate about films(or just the odd trip to the cinema). The idea is that we watch the feature and then maybe discuss it afterwards over a drink. The focus is on the most interesting latest releases as well as one-off screenings of classics and cult items at any one of the Cinemas based in Cardiff. We have a couple of regular and semi regular events which are as follows,

Chapter Arts Presents- We have a semi regular meet up at Chapter which are scheduled around the critically acclaimed new releases, cult classics, indie flicks and the very best of world cinema.

Film Group social- One Friday a month is reserved for a social gathering. No film involved, just a chance for members to introduce themselves and get to know some of the other members. Any suggestions of where to go are welcomed.

Movie night @ Cineworld- This is a bi-weekly event every other Tuesday that takes place at Cineworld. A monthly schedule will be updated but may be subject to change(pending delay to release dates, or at a members request if there is something else on of particular interest)

Small Space Screenings - This is a new venue that has opened up in Barry that screens classic films every Monday night in it’s 18 seater cinema (the smallest in the UK). Small Space also have their very own group on Meet up https://www.meetup.com/Barry-Cinema-Meetup-Group/

Pop up events or film festivals- there will be a meet up scheduled for any one-off events of particular interest.

Member requests- members are welcome(and encouraged) to suggest their own future events, whether it’s a particular film or social event.

Contributions to the cost of the membership fee are welcomed but not expected.

If you have RSVP’d for an event that you cannot attend please make every effort to let the host know you will no longer be attending or change your RSVP to “not going”. Anybody that continually no-shows events will be removed from the group.

If you are quite shy and you find approaching a group of strangers quite daunting I can assure you we are a very friendly and welcoming group, please feel free to contact the host in advance so any arrangement can be made to put you at ease.

We also have a WhatsApp group, if you are interested in joining just send me a message with your name number.

That’s just about covers everything, if anybody has any ideas for group events please feel free to share with myself or one of the other event organisers. Also if anybody is interested in becoming an event organiser please message me, we are always on the lookout for people who would like to get involved.

Hope to see you all at a future event👍

"Mrs Lowry and Son" -- Film at Cineworld

Cineworld Cardiff

Cast: Timothy Spall, Vanessa Redgrave Director: Adrian Noble TICKETS: I think they are about £4-00 if booked in person. If booked online then a small additional booking fee applies.

Chapter Arts Presents: Hail Satan?

Chapter Arts Centre

Chapter is an ambitious, multi-artform cultural space based in Cardiff, that presents and produces international art, performance and film alongside a dynamic social space. Synopsis: The Satanic Temple is a non-theistic group founded in 2013 in Salem, Massachusetts. Though it uses satanic imagery, the group doesn’t actually believe in Satan but rather use the idea of religious pluralism to advocate against theocracy and to challenge corrupt authority. With a mischievous sense of humour and a few rebellious friends, they speak truth to power in some unexpectedly profound ways. A provocative, charming and frequently hilarious documentary. Start time: 18:05 Ticket price: £7.20 Runtime: 95 minutes Trailer: https://youtu.be/27RtJp-rhHk N.B The scheduled film may be subject to change depending on cancellation of screening, availability of host or at the request of a Film Group member. Any contributions to the membership fee are welcomed but not expected.
