Go Hacktoberfest Prep - Getting setup and how to contribute to open source
Details
Come along and get hands-on with some Go code and how Hacktoberfest works! This evening will feature a brief talk and a chance to help each other get set up with Go and start solving some real world problems.
Hacktoberfest is an open source contribution festival run by Digital Ocean every October. This is all about encouraging meaningful contributions to the open source ecosystem — for beginners and veterans alike. https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/
'Introduction to Hacktoberfest' - Eleanor Deal
In this brief intro you should learn everything you need to know to start contributing to the open source community - covering question such as:
- What is Hacktoberfest and how do I take part?
- What is open source and how does it relate to Go?
- How do I find issues to work on for Hacktoberfest?
-------
During the coding portions of the evening we'll be on hand to help anyone who is getting started with Go or Github, to make sure you have everything you need to contribute to Hacktoberfest.
While Hacktoberfest doesn't officially open until October 1st, this is a good opportunity to get a feel for contributing to open source in a supportive environment so you feel more comfortable contributing in your own time throughout October.
Later in October, at our next meetup, we'll come back together to discuss contributions we've made and help each other through any last PRs before the end of the month.
We hope this will allow people of all skill levels and familiarity with Go to participate/learn/share more about the language as well as different approaches.
