What we're about

Our mission is to promote outings, enhance training and experience, and expand a sense of community among Central Oregon mountaineering enthusiasts.

Our outings may include:

· Mountain climbing – from scrambling on easier peaks to technical ascents on more difficult routes

· Ski mountaineering and glacier travel

· Sport or trad climbing at the Bend Rock Gym or outside on rock

· Multi-day backpacking and winter camping

No need to hire a guide to find adventure in the mountains. Join us to gain new skills and get experience. Regardless of whether you've been climbing for years or if you are just starting out, the Cascades Mountaineers welcomes your participation. You’re likely to attain new peaks.

We've been based in Bend since 1996. For more information, see our website at www.orcm.org or email us at info@orcm.org.

Mt. Shasta Climb with Ski Descent (Early Planning List Only)

This is an ascent and ski descent of Mt. Shasta (14,179ft) in Northern California. Route of climb will be determined by conditions, weather, and group experience. The trip will run from May 31-June 3. Climbing Mt. Shasta is a challenge due to the altitude and distance required to summit. You should be in excellent physical fitness and an expert skier to join this trip. Advanced snow/ice climbing and glacier skills are not required, but some experience walking in crampons and using an ice axe for self-arrest is a good idea. Safety is a top priority and the summit is not the ultimate goal, but rather a destination along our trip. Specific details will be forthcoming, but we feel it is important to form our team now for training and cohesion in order to give ourselves the best chance at a successful trip. IMPORTANT: RSVPing for this specific meetup means you are interested and will commit to coming to a preparatory planning meeting. Your saying YES to this post does not ensure your spot on the climb, rather it is an invitation to learn more and a chance to decide if this trip is right for you. We will meet at a local pub for a few hours to chat and meet each other. If you are not local to Bend, please RSVP and I'll set something up to get you up to speed. Thank you. Keith and Andrew
