Join Cedars UU Church on Sundays at The Island School, 8853 Day Rd, Bainbridge Island and meet with a vibrant group of Unitarian Universalists of all ages. We also feature many activities for those who are liberal thinkers, spiritual seekers and social justice advocates. Cross-Cultural Book Group, a social justice book club

Cedars UUC Office

We meet THE 4TH FRIDAY of every other month, starting 10/26. We are CCBG, a non-member book club that encourages thinking and discussion on topics pertaining to American pluralism; what it means to be an American; and how that intersects with our own identities. We welcome those who have read the current selection and come with an open mind and open heart. There is a core group of about 7 people but sometimes attendance swells to 15, depending on the topic. Our focus is not on building a book club but rather on generating thoughtful discussion about issues of social justice. We encourage readers to form auxiliary groups with others who wish to be better informed on these issues. Each meeting is lead by a facilitator who asks two or more questions of the participants. Our meetings are topic-focused, with an emphasis on deep reflection. Please RSVP but feel free to bring a buddy. We are Unitarian Universalists who welcome those of any faith (or none) who want to be in a place of acceptance. For more information, please email [masked] CURRENT SELECTION We will meet on October 26th, 2018 from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Selection: THE LINE BECOMES A RIVER by Francisco Cantu. This is a nonfiction book written by an agent who patrols the Mexican border; he is also of Latino/Mexican heritage. If you want a better understanding of what it means to cross the US/Mexican border and also to be one of the government agents whose job it is to thwart those efforts, read this book.
