What we're about

Welcome to Central Coast Vegans- OUR HOME OF ALL THINGS VEGAN ON THE CENTRAL COAST!

It's a strange thing when people who are conscious about their health and the environment AND are compassionate to all life are in the minority! Our vision is to "be the change in the world" by sharing our ideals through visibility in our community.

Central Coast Vegans is a growing group of persons committed to our health, responsibility to our environment and compassion for all animals on our planet. We welcome you to join Central Coast Vegans! Spend some time meeting like-minded people in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

Central Coast Vegans is also an excellent resource for information on health, environment and animal related information! We have members that leave interesting and useful information on our message board. So be sure and check that out! That's us, Central Coast Vegans ... also an excellent and positive virtual experience!

TALK: When A Pig Farmer Joins An Animal Rights Leader

San Luis Obispo Library

Former Smithfield pig farmer Bradley Johnson was deeply steeped in the industry. Then he met activists who would change his life -- and take him down a dramatically new path. Join DxE co-founder Wayne Hsiung, whose investigations of Smithfield have been featured in the Washington Post and New York Times, as he presents on the rapid change happening across the nation against factory farms. From the CA fur ban to slaughterhouse workers turning against Big Ag, we are at a critical point in the evolution of human civilization. This rapid shift is captured in the surprising friendship between Hsiung (the animal rights leader) and Johnson (the former pig farmer). This talk will explain 3 crucial ways the tide is turning against the animal ag industry; uncover crucial details about factory farms that are hidden from the public; describe the brutal efforts by industry to crush dissenters; and, most important, give insightful tips on how ordinary citizens everywhere can help the fight to create a more transparent and just system of food. Join us at the San Luis Obispo Library COMMUNITY ROOM for this powerful presentation. Light refreshments will be served.

South County Potluck - Panel on Future Farmers of America & Music by Nathan Zak

Happy spring! Join us for a potluck meal! It's always a tasty variety of food and lots of good company too! We've added a panel discussion on Future Farmers of America, more widely known as FFA, to the program. What is FFA? Come and learn about what we know is currently happening in FFA and what we hope for their future. We will watch the brief trailer, “So Give Me an F,” followed by personal stories from a parent of a former FFA student, two former FFA students, and also from a local animal rights activist. Following this program we'll enjoy acoustic music played by Panga’s Nathan Zak!! It's gonna be a great night, we hope to see you! If you can, please bring an old plate to donate to the potluck to help us be more eco friendly. Thank you!
