Badminton is the coolest racket sport out there. It is fast, fun and great exercise. If you have only played in the backyard or at picnics, it is time to learn how it is really played. If you are an experienced player, it is always great to play with friends. If you played seriously in college but have not picked up a racket in years... maybe it is time.
We will meet Sunday afternoons at the International Badminton Center in Edison. They will give us a nice discount.
As this is all for fun, I added pickelball in the title, so we can play both.
I am hoping to make the group not just about the Sundays but to be a network for friends that can use the group to find playing opportunities.
Consensus in the group was that we should meet every other week to avoid burnout. We will go back to once a week if enough people that attend ask for it.
We had nice turnouts for the last 4 events. So maybe we are a functioning group again. I guess I will believe it when we have 5 in a row.
Please sign-up in advance so I know that we will have a nice turnout. Also... I think if too few people sign-up then no one signs up as it looks like the event will be poorly attended.
IBC will charge us $10/each if you are not already a member. If you do not have shoes (must be white-soled court shoes) and a racket (I have 2 extra rackets I can loan out as well), you can rent them there. They are going to start being serious about enforcing the white sole rule --- no black soles even if non-marking.
We will try to match people up by ability. Any beginners, we will make sure you get some pointers if not a complete lesson.
We really do have total beginners as well as seasoned players that come... don't feel like you need to be a serious player to come. We promise a fun time to both beginners as well as solid players.
IBC does not supply birdies (though there are usually OK used birds left on the floor). We all share birds, so it would be nice if you brought a can of birds so you can share one from time to time.
Say you are there for "Paul's meetup" when you register at the front desk, that will make sure you get the discount.
It is a really wonderful group of recreational players. So far we range from total beginner to pretty good intermediate players. Feel free to come even if you have never played... we will help you get started.
