Off Leash Hike on the Gray Butte Trail

OK, dog lovers, I'm feeling a little adventurous this week so we're going to hike a remote trail out east of Terrebonne on the Crooked River National Grasslands, a place I've never been before. This hike will be 3.8 miles round trip and will take us on a moderate to easy trail where we'll have great views of the Cascades and the high desert. The weather report calls for chilly temps and possible rain/snow. Hey, it's winter! We invite the adventurous among us to come check out this remote area where our dogs will joyously run free and wild!

The weather conditions were so miserable this morning that our group decided to hike somewhere in the forest where we would find some protection from the rain. So we headed down to the Lava Lands and hiked the Blackrock trail. Our destination was the tree island which is completely surrounded on all sides by black lava fields. The hike took us about 4 miles RT. All 2 legged & 4 legged critters had a great time! Thanks to those hardy members Susan, Sue & Brian for braving the harsh Central Oregon winter weather with us today!

Loved it. We had a fun day and I was a bit sore (which is good). The mileage estimate is approximate. I realized that I had not reset my pedometer from walking around that morning a bit. Probably about 3.5 miles. Have a great day!

I have chickened out due to possible weather. One of my dogs easily gets those snow/ice balls in her feet and I do not have booties for her. Does anyone have a bootie recommendation?

Ruffwear makes several styles of canine booties. My dog Alex has used Ruffwear booties to protect his paws. They stay on very well and he doesn't mind wearing them.

I may or may not end up going. I am headed to the Sled Dog Races at Bachelor Butte today, and have to work Sunday night.
Weather won't stop me, but, the working after hiking might. I will decide in the am. Sorry to be so indecisive.

Hi-I am going to opt out-not comfortable with the drive with my car, Fanny's optional re-call with horses and cyclists will be a problem. Hoping for snow to head over the the snow park.
