Making and Using the Atlatl
Meet the weapon that was used to hunt the wooly mammoth, the atlatl. The atlatl predates the bow by at least 20,000 years and is still used today for hunting game large and small as well as fishing. The atlatl, or throwing handle, allows the user to throw 5 foot darts up to 75 yards, in my experience. We will have kits prepared and help you build your own atlatl set and learn how to throw it. We will meet at the village green park in Sisters and caravan to a location in the national forest close by. I'll post the location, soon. Fee for this class $20, at the location. Bring a good fixed bladed knife and what you need to be comfortable in the woods. It will be important to rsvp as soon as possible, as kits will be limited.
