August 2017 - Home Monitoring (IoT) and Intro to Docker

There will be two 30 minute talks this month.

1st Talk: Mike McManigal will be presenting on how to combine open source technology, raspberry pi's, and bluetooth beacons to setup your own home monitoring system.

2nd Talk: Mike Melusky and Matt Tomasov will present An Intro to Docker.

Docker is a software container platform. This session will go over the role of containerization in software today, discuss the differences between containers and images, and also go over some basic important Docker commands (remove container, remove image, list processes, et al.) This talk will also go over the role of the Dockerfile. Once these are all completed, two examples will be demonstrated. The first one will show how to set up a JIRA server in a Docker container. The second example will build a basic Spring Boot application and show how the application can be containerized with deployments.
