The Skate School is organized and run by the Central Park Skate Patrol. Schedule: See the registration link below to view class schedule and availability. All instructors are members of the Central Park Skate Patrol and are certified by Skate Instructors Association, known as SkateIA (www.SkateIA.org)

Beginners Class: Covers: The basics--Standing, Ready position, V-walk to glide, Stroking, Heel stop, A-frame turns.

Advanced Beginner Class: Covers: Improved stride, Improved stopping, Swizzles, Parallel turns, Spin Stops, Street Skills. Please register for this class only if you can skate comfortably and confidently and stop effectively by using your heel brake.

Intermediate Class: By appointment only. Covers: Improved stroke and glide, Skating backwards, Forward cross-overs, T-Stops, Backward swizzles, Advanced heel brake. Appointments for intermediate lessons are available according to demand.

Private Lessons: Receive more personal instruction. Private lessons are scheduled at a time and location convenient for you. To schedule a private lesson, simply email skateschool@skatepatrol.org with your preferred dates, times and area and we will arrange for an instructor at our earliest availability and will inform you of the cost.

Cost and Duration Cost for group classes: $25 per student, $45 for a 2-lesson package, or $60 for a 3-lesson package. Please register early to reserve a space. Classes last about 75 minutes. In case of rain or wet roads, all classes will be cancelled.

Where to Meet: All classes will meet at West 72 nd Street entrance to Central Park, Manhattan.

If you do not have your own equipment, it will have to be purchased. We cannot teach students without helmets and protective gear. Class sizes are limited, so pre-registration is highly recommended. Walk-ons will be enrolled on a first-come first-served basis. What You Need: Helmets, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads, as well as strong desire to skate are required.

Saturday Morning Inline Skate Class for beginner to intermediate levels

Inline skate lesson for beginner to intermediate level skaters.

You need a complete set of protection gear (helmet, wrist guards, knee pads, and elbow pads) to participate in class.

A face mask is also required to participate in this class

Cost of this class is $25 per individual. Fees are collected before class begins. We recommend that you pay in advance, using the PayPal option. (If you want to buy classes in bulk, the cost is $45 for 2 classes, or $60 for a package of 3 classes. Discount packages should be paid in full.)

We meet just inside the West 72nd Street Entrance to Central Park at 11:00 AM

The class leaves for the lesson area by 11:10AM. We will walk to the practice area and be geared up, ready to skate by 11:30AM

Please check your gear to see if it fits properly, before coming to class. Make sure the wheels, buckles, straps, snaps, laces and everything else is in good working order.

If it is raining or the lesson surface area is wet, we will NOT have the class. Cancellation of class will be posted in advance.

Free Stopping Clinic in Central Park

Just inside the West 72nd Street Entrance to Central Park

FREE BRAKING LESSONS and Safety Techniques.
Learn to use your heel brake.
We operate a Stopping Clinic on West 72nd Street, where Skate Patrollers give free lessons on how to use the heel brake or how to stop/ slow down without it!
The clinic is located just inside the West 72nd Street entrance to the Park - next to Strawberry Field Entrance.
Come and learn to stop or improve your technique.
You should be able to move on skates to participate in this meet up.

Please note that in addition to standard skating protection gear, FACE PROTECTION is now required to participate.
