Basic Income for Canadians: from COVID-19 emergency to income security for all
Details
How did a global pandemic find us so poorly prepared? When public health measures closed down workplaces in the spring of 2020, half of all Canadians were living paycheque to paycheque. Emergency income support programs, like the CERB, were rushed into place because our existing social supports were not up to the task. How has the conversation about Basic Income changed in the wake of the pandemic? Can a Basic Income help build resilience so that families and businesses are better prepared the next time we face an economic shock?
