"Train, don't strain." ~Arthur Lydiard, (Lydiard helped popularize running as the commonplace sport it is today.)
Charles County Running Club (CCRC) offers Waldorf, Maryland-area (broadly defined) runners a chance to socialize and train together, ideally enhancing their enjoyment of and performance in the sport. It may serve as: - a means of accountability (to themselves or to a community of runners) - fitness pursuit - goal accomplishment, or - what one makes of it.
Workout distances are flexible; paces are fitness-level and training plan specific. We can inspire, motivate, encourage, push, congratulate and celebrate each other's courage to start; one's commitment to a goal; a group's perseverance to complete a training plan; a PR!
"And if you have a hard time on your own, set up a community of people that will do it with you. ... I could come up with a million reasons why I didn't need to go do those workouts if it was just me going," said the six-time IRONMAN World Champion Mark Allen during a podcast interview with Rich Roll, http://www.richroll.com/ .
"But when I knew I was going to meet one or two buddies ... and they were going to be a little upset if I didn't show up, I showed up. And then it was great; we all enjoyed it. "So, having that community of support of like-minded people, who are striving to have those same experiences, to make some positive changes in their lives. If you do it together, it just magnifies."
