Big Talk is the result of an ongoing social experiment begun by Kalina Silverman. The basic idea is to skip (or shorten) the small talk and ask people deeper, more meaningful questions with the goal of making deeper, more meaningful connections. (Check out her website and video here: http://www.makebigtalk.com/. (http://www.makebigtalk.com/))
• What we'll do
We'll begin by discussing the concept and format of our Big Talk get together and then practice with a couple of exercises. No one will be pressured to talk, so feel free to come and listen. However, past Big Talks have shown that everyone at some point wants to share. We'll finish with a round table discussion of future meetups.
• What to bring
Please bring an ear to listen, a mouth to talk, and a heart to seek and understand.
• Important to know
Please note that this is not intended to be a "self-help" type of meeting. The goal is to make deeper connections with people through more meaningful discussions. I have found, though, that delving into deeper discussions has the result of being encouraging and invigorating. As is good practice, we'll steer clear of the topics of religion and politics.
