If you're looking for opportunities to go sailing, this group is for you! Or, if you have a sailboat and want people to sail with, let me know so I can l give you hosting privileges.
I generally take 3-4 people when hosting a sail and always ensure at least one other person has considerable sailing experience so it's safer and more enjoyable for everyone. I'll also try to give priority to those who haven't sailed with me before. When a new outing is announced, anyone interested should join the waitlist and I'll add people individually.
Note: This is not Sailing 101 or a legitimate training program for those who want to learn how to sail. There are a number of classes available in Charleston such as through the College of Charleston Community Sailing Program that provide a great foundation for learning how to sail.
There is a small annual membership fee to help me cover the Meetup organizer subscription ($200/yr!) and miscellaneous incidental expenses to operate my boat (insurance, gas, etc).
I will ensure at least one attendee has some sailing experience to make this a safe/enjoyable experience for everyone. Please join the waitlist and I'll add attendees individually.
Only pre-registered, dues-paid guests may participate. I'll cancel the trip if thunderstorms, rain, or other hazardous/miserable conditions develop. Ensure you are receiving notifications for Meetup events in case of last-minute changes/cancellation.
If you're coming from West Ashley, the Google Maps directions aren't very good. The easiest way is to take Cosgrove Dr north from I-26, right on Spruill Ave, then left on Viaduct Rd. Follow signs to FLETC, then before entering FLETC you'll turn right and follow signs for the marina. My boat is in slip D-23. Google directions from most other places are acceptable.
Be sure to wear sunscreen on any exposed skin. Feel free to bring non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. Please, no alcohol...you're going to be actively participating!
