What we're about

This group meets all over Charleston, Summerville, Goose Creek, Ladson, West Ashley, North Charleston, Mt Pleasant, The Islands and Moncks Corner..........we wil even do day trips to cities a little farther out. We will try to meet for lunch at least once each week, brunch the following week, have at least once social event each weekend and add more get togethers as people suggest things they'd like to do. This is an all inclusive group for all ages and genders but geared primarily for adult activities. We welcome singles, couples........whatever. If you are new in town or just want to meet some new friends or some friends with different interests, check us out. Some of our events are obviously child friendly so it gives parents and grandparents a chance to get out and bring the children along, while socializing with other adults. Some of us who don't have children would enjoy the opportunity to see them. You'll know which events they are but if there is a question, just ask me. Some events even allow for your fur children. I don't make those rules.....the venues do.. The best meetup I was ever in was a mix of people from multiple countries and backgrounds, mostly people in their 20s and 30s with a few in their 40s, 60s and 70s........that's what I'm going for here...............a wide range of people who can compliment each other and be kind and have fun. NORMALLY I'm A HUGGER BUT during the CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC, we are greeting each other with HELLO, the peace sign, Namaste or the Spock's Vulcan Salutation.....and we are washing our hands with SOAP and water and staying at home at ANY SIGN of illness............ I NOW HAVE a large Banner on a stick, It's a burgundy color and says BE KIND. I will be holding this up at crowded events so you can find us.. Above all, let's stay safe, be kind and have fun.

NOTE things have changed quite a bit since I started the group.........due to COVID restrictions, we have smaller numbers at each event and we are trying to do LOTS of outdoors event.

TRIVIA at Jagerhaus Pub/Irelands Own, in West Ashley area of Charleston

Ireland's Own / Jagerhaus Pub

One of our members, Richard Hanf, will be running a really fun game of Trivia on Tuesday night. This Trivia includes the possibility of Karaoke (voluntary of course), dancing for extra points at halftime, a free answer from Rich Trivia Facebook page........lots of opportunities for laughs and a great way to make new friends. Most of us eat dinner while we are there but you don't have to. The food is really good! If you can't make it but you've signed up, please UNrsvp so we won't save you a seat at our table. On occasions when I can't be there, Donna will keep the team organized but Richard does a good job of explaining the game each time. Most of all, it's fun and a great way to get to know people.

Poogans Porch Restaurant, late brunch

Poogan's Porch

My reservation is for 5 because that is the largest group you can register online, at the free no obligation reservation center.
I'm assuming that more than 5 will want to go so if someone volunteers to reserve a table, this is the link:https://www.poogansporch.com/menus/
I will increase the number of attendees as one or more tables are reserved.
HOW WE GOT OUR NAME
From the moment you step into the parlor of Poogan’s Porch, there is a pervasive sense of history: the knotted heart-of-pine floors, the dual staircases, and of course, the first and second story porches all reflect the Charleston of days gone by.

Poogan’s Porch was originally a spacious, commodious home, erected in 1891. By 1976, the character of the neighborhood had changed suitably to allow for the conversion of the house into a restaurant. The last residential owners of the site sold their home and moved away, leaving behind the neighborhood dog that they had grown so accustomed to caring for over the years.

As far as the little dog was concerned, Queen Street was his terrain. He had been a neighborhood fixture, graciously accepting table scraps and back scratches from every family on the block. He was no purebred fluffy puppy; he was a good ol’, down-home Southern porch dog and the porch at 72 Queen had become his favorite spot over the years.

HIS NAME WAS POOGAN
Poogan became the guardian of the fledgling restaurant. From his perch on the front porch, he presided over the renovation process, and when we opened our doors for business, he greeted our first guests warmly. The restaurant family cherished him. He became an institution.

Poogan died a natural death in 1979. This building is his monument.
