What we're about

Welcome to the Charleston Paddle Club! At CPC we are a local non-profit group that is passionate about paddle sports, physical fitness, and fellowship. Our regular events include weekly dragon boat instruction and team practices, outrigger canoeing, open paddles, and various social events throughout the year. Members of our amateur sports team, the Charleston Firebreathers, compete nationally in dragon boating events and internationally by representing Team USA. Through these sports, our members develop a greater respect and love for Charleston’s beaches and waterways, get in great shape, and make new friends. We welcome members of all ages and skill levels, and we especially love introducing these rapidly growing sports to the people of the Lowcountry.

Open Dragon Boat Practice

Brittlebank Park

Please be on the dock by 8:45 am so we can stretch and get the boat loaded. We will depart promptly at 9:00. Make sure to dress in layers because even if it's cold, you'll quickly work up a sweat and want to peel off a few layers. Also, if the weather gets too cold, we'll cancel practice so check the comments section for this event and your email prior to coming to practice. Parking is in the Brittlebank Park lot unless it is full. Please DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS OR MAKE A SPACE as you risk receiving a $45 parking ticket from the city. If there is an attendant collecting fees for event parking tell them that you are here for dragon boat practice. They generally make an exception and let you through no charge. If the lots are full you may park across the street in either of the MUSC lots if they are open or across the street at the government building's lot. If you haven't signed a Charleston Paddle Club waiver this calendar year, download it here (https://d8159fe3-ba51-4739-8a1a-ba71607655f8.filesusr.com/ugd/2276fa_49acf009044746dc8386517143d62c45.pdf) and bring a completed copy with you to the dock.
