What we're about

Jim & Kay Fuller have been leading A Course in Miracles study groups since 1990. A Course in Miracles is a spiritual tool for releasing us from our present experience of competition, conflict and fear and returning us to the inherently natural experience of peace, connection and joy. A primary function of the Course is to free our minds from the religious dogmas and punitive ideologies that have been implanted in us by traditional interpretations of Judeo-Christian teachings. God is love, only love, and always has been. A Course in Miracles is a mystical teaching. As study group facilitators we do not attempt to “teach” the Course. That would be an intellectual exercise and as such could not produce a spiritual experience. Our weekly format includes an opening meditation, often utilizing sections from the Course. This is followed by group reading of parts of the Text. The gathering includes opportunities for questions and discussion of the evening’s readings. We close with an “open prayer” which everyone is welcome to contribute to.

We have found that reading aloud from the Course and having it read to us in a group setting produces subtle shifts in our consciousness and facilitates the remembering or awakening that is the goal of the Course. Each inner shift is an opening for miracles, actual changes in our experience of our life, our self and the others around us. We are always mindful that the purpose of the Course in not to learn or make up new religious ideas but to connect with the Loving Creative Intelligence (God) which is always present. While the Course itself is a self-directed guidebook and requires no external teachers we have found that participating in study groups with other Course students supports and deepens our individual awakening process. As the Course says, “It is impossible to remember God in secret and alone.” This applies equally to the remembering of our true Self, the whole and perfect being which we are today and always have been.

We often suggest listening to the Course as you might listen to poetry or music, not analyzing it but simply experiencing it as you allow it to wash over you. If you are new to the Course we suggest that you begin by reading the "Manual for Teacher" section found at the back of the book. This will help clarify some of the terms and concepts used in the Course. The Course often uses traditional religious language in non-traditional ways. One function of the Course is to free our minds from the religious dogmas and punitive ideologies that have been implanted in us by traditional Judeo-Christian teachings. God is love, only love, and always has been. Forgiveness and complete freedom from all thought of sin and suffering is ours Divine inheritance. The Course offers a bridge of return to our natural state of wholeness, innocence, and communion with all. Please visit our website at: www.UnitySpiritualCenterOfCharlotte.org
