What we're about

All of us have some sort of "philosophy of life," even though we may not have verbalized it. Here you can get ideas for your own philosophy of life. You can see what others think of your own philosophical ideas, and you can help others to become clearer in their own thinking.

When there is difference of opinion, we have an opportunity for "friendly debate," a very growth-promoting experience.

_______
Our meetings are on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. They start at 7:00 PM and end at 9:00 PM.

Due to Corona Virus, we are now meeting online, using Zoom. To attend, you will need to RSVP, whereupon you will receive instructions. The limit will be 20 people attending.

1) We generally start with about a 5 to 15 minute administrative meeting for dealing with group maintenance issues, including introductions.
2) We propose topics; and choose one for discussion by vote.
3) We brainstorm where each participant can offer a prospective on the topic.
4) We discuss the selected topic with open minds, without rancor or personal attacks. "In all debates, let truth be thy aim, not victory." Ben Franklin

Since the topic is not pre-selected, those who attend are those who choose the topic. And so there is no prepared agenda, rather we are interested in your fresh perspective. Any expertise in the topic is a bonus; it is, in no way, expected. Beginners are encouraged to suggest topics and fully participate.

If you join, you need not comment. You can wait till you feel comfortable doing so. We welcome anyone who wants to join a group, whose purpose is to examine any and all ideas. We believe the process of philosophy encourages an exploration of ideas in a quest for meaning and understanding.

If you have a belief system that you must not allow to be questioned; our group is not for you. It is more important to us that our ideas be challenged than that they be accepted without question. No one is trying to win you over; we search for truth and meaning.

RSVP is appreciated; but not required.
