What we're about

The Charlottesville Writers Critique Circle is a Meetup group for local writers. Please join us if you would like to:

-meet other local writers, authors, dabblers, poets, novelists, and wordsmiths;
-improve your writing by receiving feedback from your peers;
-provide constructive critiques of your peers' work, and;
-occasionally cap the pen or close the laptop and enjoy a social event with the group.

All writers are welcome, as are all styles of writing (creative, fiction, nonfiction, whimsical, poetry, etc).

Our two sections meet on alternating Tuesdays from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the Jefferson-Madison Central Library downtown. The Prose section is for writers working on short stories, novels, flash fiction, etc. Our Poetry section welcomes poets, songwriters, and others focusing on paragraph-averse styles of writing.

Hope to see you soon!

Charlottesville Writers Critique Circle - Poetry Section

Central Library, Jefferson or Madison Room

Calling all poets! Want to share your work, hone your verse, or simply connect with fellow writers? Come hang out with us as we delve into the wide world of poetry. We meet for two hours every other Tuesday to read and critique poems. Most nights we feature four presenters and one backup. If interested in joining please email me at [masked].
A few days before the meeting, I'll send out a document with the poems we'll be reading. You can review them ahead of time and come in with comments. We'll then read the pieces aloud, and attendees can provide constructive feedback.
For now, we ask that each poet limit their submissions to either two small poems (of no more than a page in length) or one longer poem (no more than three pages in length). If you unsure about a piece's length send it to me and I can give you the thumbs-up/down.
We also feature weekly prompts, post publishing opportunities, and more!
If you have any other questions, contact me (James Cole) here on Meetup or at [masked]
Look forward to seeing you all there!

Critique (#88) Presenters: Becca, Myron, Liz / Chris G

Central Library, Jefferson or Madison Room

Come find your Cville writing community!

Meet with your fellow wordsmiths to offer and receive feedback on short stories or manuscript chapters. New members are always welcome. We've returned to our old haunt, the JMRL Central Library on Market St., on the third floor in the Madison Room.

Presenters: Becca, Liz, Myron
Backup: Chris G

Scheduled presenters *and our backup presenter* should bring a printed copy of their work for each attendee, in the following format:
-strictly between 1,000-2,000 words (please note wordcount on page 1)
-1.5 line spacing
-line numbers noted on pages

If your writing tends towards short stories/flash fiction of fewer than 1,000 words, please bring two pieces (no more than two) that combine to fall within our wordcount range.

New members will be invited to present their work after attending and contributing to two meetings.

To help cover fees charged by Meetup, an annual contribution of $10 will come due on your third meeting.

Attendance is capped at 14 for each meeting, so please don't RSVP unless you have every intention of attending. If you find you won't be able to attend a meeting after having already RSVP'd, please remove your RSVP as soon as possible, but no later than 3pm the day of the meetup. Late RSVP changes may get you barred from the following meeting. Two no-shows will result in removal from the group. Feel free to message Chris with any special circumstances.

Finally - the following Critique Circle extras are available via Google Drive:

-Share and view announcements & opportunities in the Discussions tab
-Share and view Writing Tips in our Drive folder
-Participate in the CWCC Critique Swap! (also in the Drive folder)

That's about it... see you at the Circle!

2021 Rappahannock Writers' Conference

Needs a location

Let's carpool to the FREE Rappahannock Writers' Conference 2021! I can't say enough about how helpful these types of conferences are generally, in terms of learning, networking, and boosting a writer's motivation. Plus, did I mention it's free? A group of CWCC writers attended in 2019, and had a blast. Check out the following links for more info, and to register:

We'll meet in the parking lot by the Pantops Giant supermarket at 6:15am sharp on Saturday morning, Nov 6th. I can carry 3-4 additional wordsmiths, we can work out the carpooling details once we know how many people we have going.

We really did have a great time at the last one - let's bring a big CWCC delegation this time, too!
