I Made a WordPress Plugin & Migrating to Cloud

Exmouth Arms

We are delighted to invite you along to our monthly WordPress meetup. We meet from 7 pm and aim to get our first speaker underway at around 7.30 pm, this gives everyone enough time to arrive, get a drink and help themselves to the sandwiches provided. If you're a newcomer don't worry, we'll keep a friendly eye open for you and introduce you to the others so you'll feel welcome. This evening will have 2 presentations each followed by questions. Between presentations, we'll take a short break followed by the closing remarks to finish the meetup. Things usually come to a close at around 9.45 pm but you will still have time to mingle and chat if you so wish. Here's what's on the agenda... /************************************* * 7.30pm * I Made a WordPress Plugin! What I Learnt and Why I'm Hooked * with Ben Kinnard * Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate *************************************/ I'm not a programmer but I love programming. During the day I help people with marketing but after 4pm I just want to make stuff. In this talk, I want to share how I built a plugin for WordPress and why I'm now hooked and want to make more. I'll talk about the steps that lead to the point where I felt confident enough to do it. From our lead (and only) WP developer leaving the agency, attending WordPress meet-ups and the right project coming at the right time. This talk is for those who want to take the first step in making a plugin or even making small customisations to make your life easier. https://twitter.com/benkinnaird https://ratherinventive.com/ /************************************* * 8.30pm * Migrating to Cloud * with Leo Mindel * Skill Level: All levels *************************************/ As Founder and CEO for Sotic, a Digital Sports agency which delivers big-name sports websites on WordPress, Leo has considerable experience in both working with Cloud technology and live events. In 2015 Sotic started the journey to migrate its own data center to Cloud. Four years later Sotic is now 100% cloud-based, running a number of fast and award-winning WordPress sites, including the Six Nations Rugby, England Netball, Gloucester Rugby, Tour of Great Britain and Welsh Rugby Union. The talk will look at the journey his 30-person digital agency undertook to migrate, the pitfalls along the way and how this move has unlocked a huge improvement in SEO, web performance, employee well-being, and work-life balance. https://twitter.com/wfckeego https://sotic.net https://profiles.wordpress.org/wfckeego/
