Chuck's Favorite - Hike the McKeldin Area of Patapsco State Park - 4 - 5 Miles

This is a relatively short hike but it is one of the most scenic and interesting hikes in the immediate area which is why it's my favorites. We should be done shortly after noon so you'll have the rest of the day to do something else. While it is short and easy for the most part, we do go significantly down hill to walk along the river and that means there is a significant uphill climb at the end to get back out of the river valley.

I like to call the McKeldin area of Patapsco State Park one of the areas best kept secrets. McKeldin Rapids (pictured to the left) is just one of many surprises this park has to offer. If you live anywhere nearby and haven't been to McKeldin you have to experience it to understand why it is one of my personal favorites.

Please arrive with plenty of time to be prepared to hit the trail promptly at 10:00 AM. We will hit the Switchback trail from the parking area immediately past the park entrance kiosk at 10:00 AM for a leisurely paced, somewhat difficult at times but mostly easy 4 to 5 mile hike with a stop for a snack somewhere in the middle. This is a relatively short hike and we should be back to the cars by noon or shortly after.
