Join CKA Saturday, May 3rd for a Laid Back Social Paddle from the Scott's Cove Recreation Area on Rock Gorge Reservoir. Our Laid Back Social Paddles usually have a gentler pace and go shorter distances. With a slightly longer lunch stop they are great for newer paddlers to socialize with other fellow paddlers while enjoying the beauty of some of the better paddling destinations in the area. You do need to be able to paddle for a total of about 3 hours with a lunch/snack break and a couple of rest stops on the water thrown in.
Weather and water conditions allowing, we will be paddling upstream to a small waterfalls before turing around and heading back to the take out. The total distance should be about 8-9 miles. We'll see plenty of herons and turtles with a few osprey and other water birds in a beautiful river like setting with very little current. We should be back to the take out around 2:30 PM.
Rocky Gorge is owned by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). To paddle at Traidelphia or Rocky Gorge Reservoirs you must purchase a day use permit for $6.00 or a season permit for $70.00. They can be purchased online at www.wsscwater.com (http://www.wsscwater.com/) or at the WSSC shack near Brighton Dam (Opens at 7:00 AM). With 7 different kayak launch point between them we will paddle enough on Triadelphia and Rocky Gorge to more than pay for the season pass if you attend regularly.
Our rental boats are new, extremely high quality, light touring, sit inside sea kayaks. They cost 4 times as much as the recreational kayaks many other outfitters use but will make you day on the water that much more enjoyable with the group.
