Seeing the Blue Angels in Annapolis harbor is a wonderful treat – and seeing them from or by the water at close range can be a thrill. There are already other meet-ups that tie watching the air show to bike rides or restaurant outings. This meet-up will be for kayakers, but participant safety is important, and measures of caution will be observed. First, anyone who signs up should be comfortable in choppy water. The harbor area will be busy with hundreds of active boats on the water – the perfect environment for big, confused waves. If you don’t like lumpy water, this won't be for you. Second, our group will be safest if its members stay together and move as a tight group, particularly when crossing thoroughfares such as the channel on the Severn. If that type of paddling cramps your style, then this won’t be for you.
Still interested? Great!
Our plan will be to launch on Spa Creek at 10 in the morning, paddle into another creek or two along the Severn, then stop for a late lunch on the beach at Jonas Green Park. When the air show starts at 2, we’ll have the option of watching from that beach, or WALKING TO the east side of the Rt 450 bridge (with a view of the Naval Academy, across the Severn).
