THIS IS A FREE SERVICE for NON-Martial Artists. Started by Sensei Victoria Cielo, Fourth Degree Black Belt. This FREE service is offered through our nonprofit organization, The Women's Self-defense Network located in Richmond, Virginia. There are no strings attached. We educate Men and Women about the dangers of our society. Learn how to make yourself less of a target, more aware of your surroundings, and more confident in your appearance. Learn how to use practical self-defense techniques that will prepare you to escape a much larger and stronger attacker. Everyone should be able to defend themselves and now that it's free there are no excuses.
The purpose of this group is to give back to the community and educate NON-Martial Artists about how to defend themselves in an attack. Through education, awareness, and training we will save lives. Ho Sin Do Hapkido, known as the science of self-defense, is not a sport. Skills and techniques learned are designed for situations one may encounter on the street.
Hapkido is an extremely realistic and versatile discipline of self-protection that includes an extensive variety of joint locks, kicks, strikes, takedowns, pressure points, ground grappling, disarming techniques as well as the use of selected weapons. The result is a comprehensive Self Defense system enjoyable to learn, safe to practice and most of all extremely effective.
Hapkidos’ dynamic concepts are based on scientific principles of anatomy and biomechanics as well as psychology and strategy. It is well suited for men and women of all ages and sizes because physical strength and athletic abilities are not essential. The emphasis is on redirecting the assailants’ aggression and power back toward them with little effort and minimum force on your part.
Hapkido is ideal for those individuals who do not have the time, desire or ability to commit themselves to the demanding study of a traditional Martial Art and are not interested in the “sport” aspect required by many systems. The essence of Ho Sin Do Hapkido is pure Self Defense. It is the synthesis of scientific principles, realistic applications, and plain common sense. Ho Sin Do Hapkido was developed by Grand Master Keith English and differs from other Hapkido styles philosophically as well as technically.
