What is Improvisation?

Comedy Improv is a form of unscripted comedy theatre. All scenes, characters, actions and story are created on the fly. There are improv principles and structures that underpin everything. These principles mean improv is learnable and doable for everyone!

Led by Emma Bird who runs Liverpool & Wirral Comedy Improv. These workshops teach the core principles and techniques of improvisation for people who have none or very little experience of improvisation.

What are the Workshops like?

A supportive, fun, non-judgmental environment is cultivated. So you are free to be playful, creative and imaginative without the fear of being embarrassed. Everyone's ideas and offers are treated as gifts and can be used to create spontaneous scenes and characters.

Each workshop you will be guided through improvised scenes and games in a way which is accessible and friendly, whatever your background. You will create characters and stories both realistic and bizarre and find how the fun can come slowly and organically or quickly and impulsively. And you will laugh long and hard. Guaranteed.

Workshops are all open to beginners, and will provide you with a wide variety of techniques to help make scenes easy, relaxed and delightful by creating quick agreement and playful, hilarious cooperation. You may find yourself more confident, creative and open outside the class as you discover how the application of improv principles makes life just a little more easy and fun.

And no, you don’t have to be funny. Just bring a playful and generous spirit and we’ll do the rest!

Everyone can improvise, we do it already every day, every conversation we have is an improvisation! These workshops guide and support you to be fully and freely creative and expressive. There will be opportunities to build friendships, have drinks before and after the sessions.

What People Say:

“Another fab workshop. You truly do them really well. I love how you ‘layer the learning’ – so that before you know it, you’re actually DOING IT…without IT being a BIG THING! It was good, frankly, to have time away from ‘everyday’ life… Kinda like a Mindfulness Comedy Meditation. It was good to meet other people from all walks of life and for there to be complete acceptance and non-judgement! I think you have the perfect balance … it was a very carefully and very clearly choreographed system of learning by building a variety skills in a non-threatening and fun way.”

"A wonderful and nurturing environment where the main aim is just to cut loose and have some fun. I've been loving it to pieces and it's been doing me the world of good too. Highly recommended for anybody."

"I laughed a lot, learnt a lot and got to know some great fun people ...the great thing is that improv can help you build confidence and find creative juices you didn't know you had."

"Best decision I ever made!"
