What we're about

We're a meetup of 20's & 30's looking to go on outdoor adventures with people our age. If you're looking to hike, kayak, rock climb, snowboard or any other outdoor activity this is the group for you. Also, we are looking to expand in to weekend camping trips throughout the Midwest. -Matt Q

Via this group, I hope to create an inclusive, friendly, and welcoming environment to connect people through hiking and other activities. To achieve this, we need help from all of you. So please be kind and nice, be active and respectful; don't hesitate to reach out if you have any ideas or suggestions, or want to be involved as an event organizer.

We do not charge for our events. The organizer is paying for the cost and will host fund raising events once or twice a year to raise money for keeping this meetup page alive (which is $200/year). All the event hosts are doing this on volunteer basis. We only have a few strict rules. No-shows will not be allowed in future events. Avoid changing your RSVP at the LAST minutes -- These are to make sure everybody has their fair share of going. And, be a decent human being -- We have no tolerance toward any kind of bullying, discrimination, or harassment. //Thao

Graceland Cemetery & Arboretum Halloween Hike

Graceland Cemetery

Hey goblins and ghouls! What better way to kick off the Halloween weekend than a cemetery hike? Join us at the historic Graceland Cemetery and arboretum, home to some of Chicago's most beautiful monuments and tombs. Not to mention the amazing collection of trees, which will hopefully be dressed in their fall finest by the time we visit!

We'll meet at the main entrance near the intersection of Irving and Clark. If you're driving, please do not park in the cemetery - instead, they request that you park on Irving Park, Clark Street, or Montrose Ave. The cemetery is also easily accessible by the Red Line (get off at Sheridan).

Tour group sizes are limited. If you sign up and can't make it, please change your RSVP as soon as possible so someone else can join in. Be warned, we will be performing a ritual at the Monument of Eternal Silence (it's a thing) to cast curses upon those who don't show.

Ok, we're not going to do that, but please be courteous and show up if you sign up! There is a covered area just inside the main entrance with benches and a bike rack - we'll meet there.

Stay spooky, y'all!

Note: this is an active cemetery, and there may be burials happening while we visit. Attendees are expected to be respectful and courteous. Graceland Cemetery reserves the right to cancel our group visit at any time if other events conflict.

Hike at Greene Valley

Afterwards, we will go out to lunch nearby for those that are interested. Bring money if you want to go to lunch.

Turkey Run/Shades State Park Camping Trip

Shades State Park

$17.00

November in the midwest is fickle, but if the weather is nice let's plan on a fall camping trip! Turkey Run State Park and Shades State Park are known for their breathtaking sandstone gorges, carved by glacial meltwaters millions of years ago. These are adventurous, rugged trails - be prepared to climb ladders, cross creeks, scramble over boulders, and maybe get a bit muddy. So, perfect way to spend a weekend, amirite?

Ok I know this is a lot of words, but read it all - important info!

THE PLAN
We'll camp Friday night at Shades State Park Campground, hike in Shades on Saturday, break camp Sunday morning and hit up a trail or two in Turkey Run before heading back late Sunday afternoon. Feel free to join Saturday morning if you can't make it Friday, or leave early - just let me know in advance.

STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW
This campground does NOT show up on Google Maps. Navigate to Shades State Park entrance, then follow signs to the campground entrance. Campground GPS coordinates are[masked],[masked]. This time of year there are only pit toilets available and no showers or electricity. It's rustic! Cell service is also spotty - download your map ahead of time so you can find the place. I will send out my cell # to all attendees just in case.

CARPOOLING
This area is 3 hours away from downtown Chicago. Drivers and riders, please sign up for carpooling here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_t2K02qQTA2zXMUAMw9wyspXtS1JXsOn4Ur-QBZTa50/edit?usp=sharing

FOOD
Part of the event fee will go toward breakfast for both days (bagels/muffins) and s'mores. Bring enough food for your dinners and picnic lunches (to be eaten on the trail). Feel free to bring your own booze - no glass, please!

- Camp light (flashlight/headlamp/lantern/etc)
- Hiking boots/shoes (these are active gorges - there may be mud or shallow water. Plan accordingly)
- Drinking water (no drinking water at the campground)
- Reusable water bottle(s)

I will be bringing/providing:
- Firewood
- S'mores stuff
- Bagels/cream cheese and muffins
- Camp stove
- Roasting sticks (5 - please bring your own if you've got 'em)
- Camp kitchen table
- Big-ass cooler

FEE
Event fee is $17/person. This is assuming we have 2 people per site - if we end up with more than 2 people per site you will be refunded the appropriate amount after the event. You MUST lock in your spot by paying me by November 1st. If you do not pay by that date, you will be booted off the list. Payment info will be emailed to attendees.

Breakdown:
- Campsite - $24/site (two nights) - two tents, one vehicle per site.
- Firewood/food - $5/person

There is a $9 entry fee for the parks per vehicle, so we will carpool. This is not included in the event fee. Please be prepared to share this fee amongst yourselves upon entry - good idea to bring some cash.

CANCELLATION
In case of inclement weather, this trip will be cancelled. Inclement weather includes heavy rain, thunderstorms, excessive cold, snow, sharknado, etc. Cost of food/firewood will be refunded in full. Campsite fee will be refunded based on campground cancellation policy.

Can't wait to camp with y'all!
